Overwhelm, Fear & Comfort Zones...
‘Overwhelmed’ is a label we often give ourselves, and its negative, its disempowering, and its from a place of STUCK…and I am all about EMPOWERING, reframing the negative to the positive, and getting some ACTION going…so next time you give yourself that label here are some great questions to write down and answer:
1) Where in my life am I feeling overwhelmed/stuck?
2) What's the worst that could happen?
3) What would be most likely to happen in reality?
4) How would I feel if this happened?
5) What’s the kindest think I could do for myself right now? (then GO DO IT!)
Some reading that might help -
FEAR – we make up a LOT of stories in our heads, particularly when looking at social media (yep I do it too!!) and this is where ‘face it till you make it’ comes in…the trick is to not let fear take over…fear prevents action, leads to procrastination, anxiety and generally feeling a bit shit. Most of us are so close to success, wether it be personal or business, yet because of FEAR we fail to move that final mile…so what can you do? FACE IT! the only way out of fear and into action is through! Ask yourself this question ‘if I wasn’t scared what would I do?’ then DO IT ANYWAY
Comfort Zones – we can so easily put a hold on life whilst we are raising our kids, prioritising their needs over ours…have you considered working on your personal development? It does involve a bit of ‘digging’ a bit of ‘doing’…are there things you want to do, places you want to go…but you always find a reason to not do it, to not go…these are comfort zones, they are mostly in our heads, and are a very personal thing. There are a number of reasons we hold ourselves back. Asking yourself these questions might help ‘How am I holding myself back?’ ‘what am I scared of exactly?’ ‘How do I know I am ready for change?’ When we identify and challenge our comfort zones, we discover we are the driver of our own bus! (this took me 39 years to work out so don’t worry, this is tough stuff!) Once you have this knowledge, the restrictions move and make way for confidence.
Always cheering you on,
Mary x
